Unusual and exciting way to visit Latvia – rafting up the river Daugava

Favorites

The eastern Latvian city of Daugavpils and the Mark Rothko Art Center offers visitors an unusual and exciting way to visit the city by offering special rafting trips up Latvia’s most iconic and mythical river, the Daugava. The rafting service is available from 1 May to 1 October.

The rafts themselves feature wooden tables, benches and chairs, with grilling areas and covered areas in case of rainy weather, and of course life-vests.

Pre-ordered meals can also be arranged, as can local guides who will be able to tell the story of the area.

The ride itself takes about an hour, and can be arranged for both larger and smaller groups. The scenic raft trip will allow visitors to view the city and its historical anti-flood barriers (1830-1841). The Marko Rothko Art Center is the only place in Eastern Europe where it is possible to view original works by Mark Rothko, a pre-eminent artist of the 20th century and a founder of Abstract Expressionism.
